I was sitting in a small restaurant when a man came in and sat down at the next table. He looked very nervous. I noticed that he kept looking around the room, as if he were waiting for someone. After a few minutes, a woman entered and went straight to his table. She sat down opposite him and they began to talk.
I couldn’t help listening to their conversation. It was very strange. They spoke in a language I didn’t understand. I thought they might be speaking French, but I soon realized that it wasn’t French. It sounded more like Spanish, but I wasn’t sure. I tried to catch some words, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying.
Suddenly, the man stood up and said something to the woman. She nodded and left. Then the man walked over to my table and said, “Excuse me, do you speak English?”

I smiled and said, “I don’t speak their language.”
He looked surprised. “But you were listening!”
